Meet CoralBridge
CoralBridge is a boutique consultancy helping expatriates navigate the permit process and settle into life in Mauritius. Founded by Candice Thompson, a seasoned expat herself, the company offers tailored support for relocation, residency applications, and long-term professional services—making the move to Mauritius smoother and less stressful.
Welkom Dan Moris – Welcome to Mauritius
Spanning just over 2,000 km² and boasting thriving global businesses across industries ranging from agriculture to financial services, Mauritius offers incredible lifestyle benefits, making it the small tropical island paradise of many expatriates’ dreams.
With a warm and consistent climate, amazing natural resources, and world-class private service providers, from sports facilities to the internet and health care, Mauritius enables a high quality of life for its residents.
Designated as the Most Developed Nation in Africa (2025) and the Safest Country in Africa (2025), Mauritius has experienced, and continues to experience, significant growth and enhancements to its infrastructure and global connectivity.
From investment and work opportunities to family connections and lifestyle motivations, Mauritius presents a variety of pull factors that attract a diverse population to its shores from countries worldwide. To address these motivations, a set of visas and long-term permits is available to help structure the permit holders’ residency in Mauritius.
But, as it often is with legislative structures, it’s not always easy for someone who is not well acquainted with the procedures to navigate the world of permit types, required documents, and processes. This is where CoralBridge comes in to help: guiding, managing, and supporting through the various types of permit applications and surrounding services for expatriating to Mauritius.

Candice Thompson
Managing Director
Hi! I’m Candice
Your Expatriation Expert
Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, Candice Thompson moved to Mauritius in 2006, following her husband, who began working as an airline pilot.
Coming from a teaching background in South Africa, Candice continued to develop herself after moving to Mauritius by working with Not-For-Profit Organisations and volunteering at schools, and completing a postgraduate qualification.
After 4 years on the island, Candice and her husband ended up moving back to South Africa, where she continued her teaching career. But the draw of Mauritius persisted, and in 2011, the Thompsons found themselves back in Black River.
“Returning to Mauritius (in 2011) was with a very different mindset to when we first arrived in 2006 (all fresh-faced and unassuming). We had initially been very excited to go back to South Africa, but found that it wasn’t what we thought it would be. We decided to return to Mauritius with a clear vision.”
A few years later, Candice’s daughter was born, which motivated her to continue volunteering with her daughter’s school, especially while her husband was working as a long-haul pilot.
Over the subsequent years, Candice continued to grow her skill base in areas such as financial literacy, administrative skills, visual design, and event management. In 2020, amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic, Candice decided to apply for a Self-employed Permit to give her and her family more stability in the tumultuous times.
Shortly after getting her permit, Candice was recruited to fulfill a role within a management company in Mauritius. The company was looking for a “long-term expat with strong administrative skills” to guide other expats looking to make Mauritius their home.
“We did hundreds of consultancy calls with people who were stuck at home during COVID and dreaming about new adventures. Moving into the corporate space in Mauritius was new to me, but I really enjoyed it, and it was a crucial step in my growth as both a person and as a professional.”
After more than three years with the management company, Candice took the leap to open CoralBridge with her newly acquired business development, compliance, and administration skills.
CoralBridge – A New Beginning
Since opening in March 2024, CoralBridge has expanded to serve a new international client base. Specialising in the permit application process, Candice guides CoralBridge’s clients in simplifying the expatriation experience to Mauritius.
From aiding with business plans, necessary for a Self-employed Permit, to document pre-verification for retirees, the permit application process for Mauritian residency requires high attention to detail and a thorough knowledge of what the approval committee is looking for in each application to ensure success. For many, this process can feel challenging and disorienting, which is why aiding in permit applications is the backbone of CoralBridge’s services.
The CoralBridge service offering doesn’t simply end with permit applications. CoralBridge also provides long-term professional services for expats, both on and off the island. If clients need assistance with personal files or administration, or simply require help with additional tasks before arriving in Mauritius (such as visiting potential rental properties, signing off on rental property inventories, or helping with settling pets), CoralBridge can assist.
As new opportunities arise, CoralBridge will continue to expand its list of professional services and help to connect the expats of tomorrow with their new island home.
“Moving to another country is a very stressful process– relocating children and pets, selling houses and cars, packing and shipping household goods. Our aim at CoralBridge is to take the permit stress off your plate so you have one less thing to worry about.”
We’re Excited to Meet You!
With the exciting growth of Mauritius as a country and home for many new expatriates, Candice and her team of associates are ready to help new clients find their way to the tropical paradise they call home.
